What about Funding Support for ADHD Coaching?

Navigating workplace demands can feel like a unique challenge when your brilliant brain operates a little differently.

The Australian Government's Job Access Employment Assistance Fund (EAF) is a fantastic initiative designed to help people with disability, including those with ADHD and Autism, to access the tools and support they need to thrive  at work.

But let's break down some key things to know:

Understanding the Employment Assistance Fund:

The EAF can support a range of helpful adjustments, including:

●     Making your workspace more comfortable and functional.

●     Providing specialized tools and tech to help you work effectively.

●     Connecting you with Auslan interpreting services when needed.

●     Offering valuable support services and personal assistance.

For our neurodivergent community seeking coaching, the EAF offers funding under 'Specialist Mental Health Support'. This current allocation ($1,642.29 inc GST as of January 2025) can be a wonderful resource to access professional ADHD or autism coaching over a 12-month period.

Who Can access this Support?

You might be eligible if you are:

●     Currently employed in Australia.

●     Self-employed and calling Australia home.

●     Able to provide supporting documentation related to your disability.

Navigating Disclosure with Your Employer:

Applying for EAF for ADHD Coaching: Important Points

  • Your Privacy First: You absolutely don't have to tell your employer about your ADHD diagnosis just to explore the EAF. It's a personal decision, and a great first step is to chat with the friendly team at the Job Access Helpline (1800 464 800) for guidance.

  • Someone Can Be Your Advocate: You have the option to nominate someone you trust (like your coach) to help with the EAF application process.

  • Feeling Unsure About Sharing?

    • Reach out to the Job Access Helpline: 1800 464 800.

    • They're there to provide clear information and answer all your questions about privacy and the application process.

  • Good To Know: While disclosure isn't mandatory to apply, it's likely Job Access will need to connect with your employer as part of their standard process. Calling the Job Access Helpline can help you understand this better, understand their considerations around confidentiality,  and help you feel more prepared.

Your Quick Guide to the EAF Application:

Think of these as easy steps to get the workplace support you need:

  1. Apply Online: Head to the Job Access Secure webpage online to start your application.

  2. Tell Them What You Need: Fill out the application with details about the workplace, you can use support such as a Coach, therapist or Friend who may help you.

  3. Job Access Reviews (About 10 Days): Job Access will look over your application and might call if they need more information.

  4. Next Steps & Assessment (If Needed): They'll tell you if your application is moving forward. If a free workplace assessment will help, they'll arrange it.

  5. You Get the Support: Once approved, you purchase the items or services you need, meaning you pay up front…
    and then…

  6. Get Reimbursed: Job Access will pay you back for the approved costs supported by your invoice.

Please note: The Job Access website itself says: “Please don’t order or buy anything before you apply. You need to apply and get approval in writing first. JobAccess can’t make payments for items you’ve already bought.”

Please remember, for the most accurate and personalized answers to your Job Access and EAF questions, connecting with Job Access directly is always best. Every situation is unique, and I can't offer specific advice on funding decisions.

However, please know that exploring and investing in the right support is a powerful step towards your workplace success. I'm excited to partner with you to develop strategies that truly resonate with your individual strengths and ways of working. Let's collaborate to create an environment where you can flourish!
